Treasures and Tour of the British Library
Members had an introduction to the Treasures of the British Library and a guided buildings tour.
Have you ever noticed that this iconic building looks like a ship? Or wondered what it takes to store, access and deliver the 13 million books in our collection to Readers?
We discovered more about the history of the British Library, its collections and architecture on a tour of the public areas of the Library visited their viewing gallery, book handling room, Reading Rooms and more.
We saw and learnt about incredible items and much more on a guided tour of some of the treasures in the British Library collection. The second largest atlas in the world, the historic library of King George III, Wilfred Owen’s manuscripts…
Knowledgeable, passionate Library staff introduced us to their favourite items in the Sir John Ritblat Gallery. where over 200 of their most iconic treasures are displayed - and divulged facts and lesser-known histories you won’t find anywhere else.
This event was part of the History of Science series, an exclusive programme of in-person visits for Members. Each event gives Members of Friends of Imperial College and their guest’s access to facilities with our Behind-the-Scenes events in Imperial and beyond!
