Behind-the-scenes @ RAL Space, Harwell
RAL Space is the UK's national space laboratory, advancing the understanding of space and our environment for the benefit of all.
During this visit, a space ambassador presented an overview of the world-class science, technology and facilities at RAL Space.
Members discovered how space missions are brought to life and share the impact of space projects from collaborations with fellow departments of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), and partners across the 100+ companies in the Harwell Space Cluster.
Following a tour of the space laboratory, there was an exclusive talk from an expert scientist, lunch in the RAL Space canteen and it finished with a tour of Oxford Space Systems.
RAL Space has over 60 years of experience in space programmes and involvement in over 215 instruments on missions. They work with UK and overseas agencies, universities and industry on space and ground-based projects.
Their unique position between industry and academia enables them to strengthen the UK space community through scientific research, technology development, providing cutting edge facilities and strategic advice to external partners. Their experts work throughout the lifecycle of space missions: leading concept studies for future missions, developing bespoke innovative scientific instrumentation, providing world-class test facilities, operating ground-stations, processing and analysing data.
